WINDHAM, Maine (AP) - Maine game wardens say a Standish man has been seriously injured after being shot in the eye while turkey hunting with his son.
Sixty-one-year-old Joseph Kennedy was hunting near Anderson Road in Windham with his son, 29-year-old Kevin Kennedy of Westbrook, when the accident happened Monday morning.
The two men had decided to separate while hunting. After hearing a gunshot, Kevin Kennedy assumed his father had shot at a turkey so he began walking in the direction of the shot. On the way, he fired at a turkey and one of the pellets lodged into his father's eye.
Joseph Kennedy was taken to Portland for eye surgery. It turns out that he had been blind in his left eye since birth.
