Former Rep. indicted on charges of campaign fund abuse

(NEWS CENTER) - Former State Representative David Burns of Alfred has been indicted on 9 charges stemming from his alleged misuse of public campaign funds.
Burns resigned at the end of January after an investigation by the Attorney General's office.
Here is the official list of charges:

  • 4/28/2004-12/13/2004 Misuse of entrusted property(Class D)
  • 6/14/2010-10/26/2010 Violation of Clean Election Act, 21-A MRSA Sec. 1127(2), Class E
  • 12/17/2010 alse Reports under the Clean Election Act, 21-A MRSA Sec 1127(2), Class E
  • 9/20/2010 alse Reports under the Clean Election Act, 21-A MRSA Sec 1127(2), Class E
  • 2/28/2011 alse Reports under the Clean Election Act, 21-A MRSA Sec 1127(2), Class E
  • 3/14/2011 Forgery***2003***(Class D)

The State Ethics Commission asked the Attorney General to investigate in December, 2011.
There is another Representative David Burns from Whiting. That Burns isn't facing any charges or allegations.
