BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The Super Bowl is just a couple of days away. For the last two weeks it feels like the Patriots and Giants have been compared in every possible way. But what about comparing the two regions, New England versus New York? That is exactly what we did. A non scientific four round comparison to determine which region is better, New England or New York.
For round one lets take a look at the best ski resorts in the northeast. Newsday had a list of the top ten ski resorts in the northeast on its website. After looking at the list, New England wins this round in a land side. Newsday ranks eight out of the top 10 ski resorts in the northeast in the New England area. Now, New York is home to Whiteface Mountain which has the biggest drop in elevation and has hosted two Winter Olympics, but numbers do not lie, and New England wins round one.
Round two will take a look at which region has better colleges and universities. According to Forbes, nine out of the top 10 schools in the northeast are in the New England and New York regions. One school in the top ten is in Pennsylvania, so we will leave that school out for this experiment. This round was slightly closer than the first round, but New England wins again with six schools in the top 10 to New York's three. I gave New York Princeton because I think it is close enough to New York to be part of the Giants fan base. With another win for New England, the score is 2-0.
For round three, let's look at who has the better sports bars. According to an article in the MetroWest Daily News, New York is home for well known bars like the Blind Tiger and Spuyten Duyvil, but New England has its share of well known places too. For example Ebenezer's Pub and the Armsby Abbey both call the New England region home. Recently Draft Magazine but out a list of the top 100 bars in the country, New England had 10 of the top 100 bars and New York had 5. That means New England wins yet another round, making the score 3-0.
Now it is time for the final round, a showdown for which clam chowder is better, New England or Manhattan clam chowder. Since taste is based on opinion, it makes it hard to determine which clam chowder is better. However, the Huffington Post is here to help us out. On its website, the Huffington Post asked the question, which clam chowder do you like better, New England or Manhattan? As of 5:30 Friday evening, New England clam chowder had an overwhelming majority on the Huffington Post website with 70 percent of the voters deciding they like New England clam chowder more than Manhattan. So that means New England wins the fourth and final round.
After we tally up the scores, New England wins the comparison contest with a 4-0 sweep of New York. Could this be an indicator for who might win the Super Bowl? Who knows, but we will find out on Sunday.
