NEWPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Lack of snow has canceled several big events scheduled for this weekend, but one event, the Annual Snowmobile Ride-in to benefit Pine Tree Camp, is still on.
It has been altered slightly to allow for the lack of snow. The sleds will be hauled on trailers for the first part of the ride and then the snowmobilers will ride the last 7 miles to Newport.
Organizers say the event is very important to the pine tree society because it's the largest fundraiser they have. The money goes to help send people with disabilities to the pine tree camp during the summer.
Michelle Thompson with the Pine Tree Society said, " The entire weekend is still on regardless of the weather. We are excited and amped up and we are hoping everybody will join us. "
Things will kick off tonight with an auction at the Newport Rec Center. Saturday events include a breakfast, the ride, a pageant and fireworks on Sebasticook lake.
