AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - After the Mayor of Portland denounced social service cuts proposed by Governor LePage, the Governor invited the Mayor to hash out money saving ideas.

On Monday, Mayor Michael Brennan criticized LePage's proposed cuts to Medicaid, saying they'd have a drastic effect on local taxpayers.

After seeing the news reports, Governor LePage invited Mayor Brennan to the capital to hear his potential solutions.

Brennan says the Governor was receptive to his ideas, which include reforms like requireiring pre-authoization for prescription drugs and second opinions before patients get costly medical procedures.

The Governor's Spokeswoman, Adrienne Bennet, says those are long-term proposals and the State still needs fixes on the short term.

The Legislature's Appropriations Committee is working out an agreement on cuts to DHHS.
