FREEPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Texas representative and presidential hopeful Ron Paul campaigned in Southern Maine Saturday.
He started the day with a rally and speech at the University of Southern Maine's Gorham campus. Supporters from all over the area packed the room and listened to the congressman speak. Paul then traveled north to Freeport where he addressed a few hundred supporters outside.
After that, and a lobster lunch, Paul sat down with NEWS CENTER's Don Carrigan.
Paul said that he came to Maine this weekend, even though delegate-rich Florida's primary is this week, because he thinks he can win this state.
He says he does believe he can get the nomination, but even if he doesn't, he's convinced the campaign is making a difference.
He says candidates can highlight the thinking of intellectuals and get the public to see things like the federal deficit in a different way. And that's what he feels he's doing.
Maine's caucuses start next weekend.
