AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Government Oversight Committee voted unanimously Friday morning to have the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability (OPEGA) investigate a portion of the spending of the Maine State Housing Authority.

The decision was made after a conservative political group last week published a list of businesses and groups that received money from MSHA.

OPEGA will look at the Housing Authority's spending in regards to sponsorships, contributions, memberships and travel and meal expenses over the past five years.

Members of the Oversight Committee stress this is a non-partisan decision.

A spokesman for MSHA says the organization welcomes the investigation and they say the committee will find nothing wrong.
