BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- The United Way of Eastern Maine recognized what it says was another strong year of volunteer service.
Members of the organization came together in Bangor Thursday evening to celebrate its campaign finale. Last year more than 6,000 donors and more than 300 businesses helped the chapter with its programs. All of them were focused on improving health and education for people in the Bangor area.
Members of the organization say that the generosity of donors helped a lot of Mainers through a rough time.
"Whether its getting ready to go to school and start early childhood development...whether its making sure that people have homes and the basic needs...or whether or not seniors are safe...it's all around making sure the people that need the most in our community are helped," said Deb Sanford, who is the board chair for the United Way of Eastern Maine.
In all the organization raised more than $2.1 million last year to help more than 55,000 Mainers.
