AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Some heavy hitters came to Maine to support legislation aimed at better management of head injuries suffered by student athletes.

A representative of the National Football League and former Patriots' linebacker Andre Tippett, who is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, paid a visit to the State House.

They came here to urge lawmakers to support a bill that would require schools to adhere to a statewide policy spelling out rules for removing athletes from games and practices when they suffer a head injury.

"NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has made player health and safety his number one priority and that extends not just to the terrific athletes on the playing field on sundays or monday nights, it extends to youth athletes of all ages", said NFL Representative David Krichavsky.

The bill is now being discussed in the Legislature's Education and Cultural Affairs Committee.
