BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--This week Eastern Maine Community College received approval from the Gambling Control Board to teach students how to be dealers for the new table games that will be coming to Hollywood Slots this spring.

One of the students who wants to be a new dealer is Jill Love. Love has experience working in a casino during her time in Connecticut, but not as a dealer.

"I had never actually been a dealer, but when I saw the advertisements and stuff for the job fair for the dealer I was like, I think that's something I'm gonna try," Love said.

The class Love is taking is being held at the Hollywood Race Track across the street from the casino. Love and other students in the class are learning how to shuffle cards, handle chips and learn the rules to the new games that will be installed in March. The new games are black jack, Texas Hold'em, three card poker, four card poker and roulette, Hollywood Slots Vice President John Osborne said.

And Love's game of choice, is roulette.

"It's fast. There's a lot to think about and its fun. It really is and I think even when we play as a customer and being on the other side and pretending that you're betting and then when you're on the other side dealing it's just a fun game," Love said

But Love and the other students are learning more than just the rules of the game.

"One of the main aspects of learning how to deal is game protection. It also trickles into other departments, security and we're training all personnel that will have any access of involvement in table games," Casino Shift Manager Ken Goetz said.

When the new games come, Love wants to be one of the roulette dealers because of the environment and for the opportunity.

"The environment is fun, there's opportunities. I think it's gonna be good for everybody. Good for Bangor. They're good paying jobs. It's fun to go to work and have fun with people," Love said.
