PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- They are members of a small fraternity -- the men who have served as governor of Maine. For the first time, Maine's five most recent chief executives go on camera together to talk about what it takes to handle the state's top job.
Joseph Brennan is a Democrat elected in 1978 and 1982. Republican John McKernan served two terms after the elections of 1986 and 1990. Angus King is an Independent elected in 1994 and 1998. Democrat John Baldacci was elected twice, in 2002 and 2006, and Gov. Paul LePage is a Republican currently serving his first term.

Each man faced his own challenges upon taking office, and each brought a lifetime of experience to bear. Gov. King sums up the basic challenge this way: "It's an amazing experience.. there's no owner's manual. You've just got to make it up as you go along."
The governors discuss their legacies, the crises they tackled, what they wish they could have done differently, dealing with the Legislature, the impact on their personal lives, and when the perks of the job made it fun.
