SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- A capacity crowd will be on hand when Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine delivers a speech at the Portland Sea Dogs' annual Hot Stove Dinner.
Valentine will speak at Friday night's sold-out event at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland. Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Seattle Mariners pitcher and South Portland native Charlie Furbush will also be on hand.
The Red Sox last month named Valentine as the club's new manager, replacing Terry Francona. The Sea Dogs are the Double-A affiliate of the Red Sox.
Proceeds from the dinner go to the Sea Dogs' Strike Out Cancer in Kids charity, which benefits the Maine Children's Cancer Program.
