BELFAST, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A coalition of Belfast's city government, arts community, and business community got an early Christmas gift.

The Maine Arts Commission presented Belfast's Creative Coalition, a check for $50,000 to help market and develop its arts community. The money is part of the Maine Art Commission's Creative Communities Grant. The Belfast Creative Coalition will use the grant funding to bring together arts, cultural partners and economic partners to brand and market the greater Belfast community as a place to be for vibrant arts, culture and local foods.

"Belfast is known as a very spunky creative community, (an) arts community on the coast and we are that," said Martha Piscuskis, the co-director of Waterfall Arts in Belfast.

The Belfast Creative Coaltion will use the grant to hire a part time administrative coordinator, develop a website, and create a marketing strategy and calender of events.
