PORTLAND, ME (NEWS CENTER) -- What was once known as one of Portland's hidden gems, is not so hidden anymore.
The International Cryptozoology Museum has opened it's new location. It used to be located on Congress Street in the back of the Green Hand Bookstore, now it's right around the corner at 11 Avon Street.
Cryptozoology is the study of hidden or unknown animals. The most well known of course being, Big Foot.
The museum is home to more than 3,000 artifacts. They range from what is believed to be scientific evidence proving crypto existence, to cultural replicas.
Loren Coleman is a long time cryptozoologist and director of the museum. He says that the the museum plays a vital role in education. He says, "This is the only cryptozoology museum in the world so we are at the epicenter of crypto study. I know people don't want to believe it but we have become a major focus and we have a lot of information sent here." Information from all around the world, as far as Vietnam and Russia.
The new location is much larger then the previous spot. Coleman says it is close to six times bigger.
