Westbrook, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Maine manufacturers say they need workers to fill hundreds of jobs.

In many fields jobs are hard to come by in Maine, but leaders in the manufacturing sector say at Bath Iron Works there are 103 job openings, at Idexx Laboratories in Westbrook there are 53 and at Hussey Seating in North Berwick there are 28.

The problem is the people applying for those positions don't have the training required for the jobs.

"Companies are turning down contract work because they don't have the work force. That impacts the company and their workforce. It also impacts the state and the local communities in which those companies reside", said Lisa Martin of the Manufacturers Association of Maine.

The association is reaching out to businesses across the state to determine what their needs are in filling job openings. It is putting together a report with recommendations that it plans to submit to the Governor's office in December.
