Maine craft beer industry is really brewing

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Maine brewing companies are preparing for a boom in business.

The Maine Beer Company is prepping Mexican vanilla beans and cleaning kegs, to get ready for Maine Beer Week, November 10-17.

There are some newcomers in Maine's craft beer industry. "We've only been in business for 2 years," said Daniel Cleban of Maine Beer Company. "When we started in the summer of 2009, we brewed on a small, one-barrel brewing system... We went from making 120 barrels a year to 1500 barrels a year."

Nathan Sanborn of Rising Tide Brewing Company says it business is bubbling over. "I've seen steady growth in the business and I'm now capacity contained and looking at our options for expansion," said Sanborn.

So why are people pulling micro-brews off the shelves?

Sanborn says, "People who traditionally who only drank the budweiser the miller are starting to discover craft beer and are sticking to craft beer."

Both maine beer company and rising tide brewing company are looking to hire more employees over the next year.
