WATERBORO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Massabesic High School Special Education teacher was arrested Tuesday for gross sexual assault and aggravated furnishing drugs.

The York County Sheriff's Office says the charges against Jessica Pomerleau are from an alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old former student.

Pomerleau, 36, has worked for RSU 57 for four years, with the last three as a Special Education Teacher in the "Success Program."

Investigators say the mother of another student reported to the school's resource officer that "Mrs. Pomerleau" was involved in in inappropriate relationship with a former student. Deputies say a search warrant was executed at Pomerleau's home in Limerick.

The sheriff's office will not say if the victim was one of her students. RSU 57 officials say the allegation claims the relationship took place during the last school year and possibly continued over the summer. School officials say Pomerleau was transferred out of the classroom on September 29, when administrators first learned of the allegation.

RSU 57 Interim Superintendent, Dr. John Davis said, "We do not know for certain what has occurred -- we only know what has been alleged. We take seriously any allegation that a member of the educational community in our district or any district would engage in an inappropriate relationship with a student. This is a very serious issue and we will work closely with the law enforcement to determine all the facts and then make the appropriate decisions. We are asking our community to allow the Sheriff's Office to complete their investigation and for our office to conduct our own internal investigation".

South Portland Police are assisting in the investigation. Deputies say one of the incidents is alleged to have happened in South Portland.

Pomerleau could get up to 5 years for each charge. Bail has been set at $25,000.
