BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- An expansion at Penobscot Community Healthcare's Dental Center in the Queen City should come as welcome news for many uninsured families.
Gov. Paul LePage was on hand as the ribbon was cut on the newly renovated center. A $2 million federal grant allowed the facility to add 19 more dental chairs bringing its total to 46.
This in turn has allowed the center to expand its dental residency program by adding six new residents. Four other students will also be joining a new pediatric dentistry residency program offered at the center.
"We will accept all people regardless of ability to pay," said the Reverend Bob Carlson, who is the president of Penobscot Community Healthcare, "and the other huge feature for Penobscot Community Healthcare and our dental center is if you're in acute pain...whether you're an adult or a child...we will see you same day...same day."
With the upgrades the dental center should be able to see about 3,000 more children within the next year.
