NORWAY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After waiting 6 hours along Main Street in Norway history buffs and community members were told the move they were waiting for wouldn't happen Thursday.

The giant house built in 1850 is slated to move just a short distance up Main Street to the town's Gateway.

It was originally called the Evans-Cummings House until it got a Victorian remodel in 1885 with gingerbread trim.

The community spent the last two years planning and raising money for the move.

The Chair of the task force overseeing the project says the Gingerbread House is one of 65 historic buildings in Norway.

The house needs a lot of exterior work but the task force says the interior is in good condition.

The move was slated for 9am Thursday.  The crowd along the sidewalk in town grew throughout the day until finally around 2:30 the crew said it needed one more night to make sure everything was safe.

The move resumes Friday at 9am.
