CUMBERLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Homeless Animal Rescue Team has plenty of furry felines available for adoption.
H.A.R.T. is a no kill, no cage, all volunteer cat shelter.
Right now they have more than 250 kittens and cats.
Volunteers with the shelter say the slow economy coupled with it being kitten season has filled the building. Adoptions this year are down more than 20 percent, placing a financial burden on the shelter.
For the month of June, H.A.R.T. is lowering its adult cat adoption fee to $35. It's normally $75. If you're interested in adopting a cat the shelter is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11 to 4.
