TOPSHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The cold and damp weather set the tone for Thursday's farewell event for Company A, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment.
140 Marines gathered at the Reserve Training Center in Topsham with their families to mark the start of their journey to Afghanistan.
This wasn't your traditional send-off with a fancy ceremony or lengthy speeches. Instead the Marines had time to mingle with each other and their families.
Just after lunch the Marines gave their families a final hug before climbing onto busses. They will spend the next two months training in California before making a brief stop here at home as they continue their journey to Afghanistan until next Spring.
