WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A group of Maine parents joined thousands all over the world to set a diaper-changing record.
The Great Cloth Diaper Change happened in Westbrook, Camden, Bangor, and four hundred other locations in twenty- three different countries. The goal is to set a Guiness World Record for the most babies changed into cloth diapers at the same time. Cloth diaper advocates hope the event raises awareness about the benefits of cloth diapers. Crystal White says diapers are putting up to two tons of waste per child into landfills. She says cloth is also less expensive.
"Ultimately, what everybody wants, it saves you money," White said "You might have to put a little investment in the beginning, but over time you can save up to two thousand dollars per child by using cloth."
Participants need to change at least ten thousand diapers to set a Guiness World Record.
