WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Westbrook Daisy Troop #574 descended on Riverbank Park Friday in full force. Their mission: to clean it up all in the name of Earth Day.
Daisy scouts are pre-Brownies... which are pre-Girl Scouts. But don't let their half-pint appearance fool you. When it comes to Earth Day, these girls are smart cookies. Six year-old Aurora Halfacre said, "Well it's Earth Day so we're cleaning up the Earth so we can make the world a better place and we're turning this whole area into a nice flower bed."
The troop leader added, "These girls are very aware of recycling and they talk in schools about conserving. They know to use both sides of the paper when they are drawing."
They also learned about sustainability by planting seeds. The seeds they are planting will go in a community garden. All of the food they successfully grow will be donated to the Westbrook Community Center Food Bank.
For their efforts today, the girls were awarded the "Making the Earth Better" patch.
An honor they will hopefully wear in some way or another for the rest of their lives.
