PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Some environmentalists are marking the anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon explosion by calling attention to the potential risks of off shore drilling.

They gathered on the Portland waterfront to talk about the need to explore other energy sources.

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree supports offshore wind projects and warns against seeking oil off the Maine coast.

"We are in gridlock in congress. There are many people who think all we need to do is put a few more oil rigs off the coast of Maine. But all we have to do is look back at what happened a year ago today. How it devastated the fishing industry in the Gulf coast, something that would be unthinkable to our fisherman here and unthinkable to the industry that depends on people coming to visit our beautiful state." says Congresswoman Pingree.

Supporters of off shore wind energy projects say they are good for the environment and the economy.
