SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- If you have a sweet tooth this could be your match. The 'World's Largest Whoopie Pie' is pieced together in South Portland.
It all started with some friendly banter between Maine and Pennsylvania over who could claim the whoopie pie as 'their' dessert.
Jon Armond and Eva Matteson from Portland's Coast 93.1 Morning Show put the debate to the test and teamed up with Amy Bouchard from Wicked Whoopies to create the 'World's Largest Whoopie Pie' Saturday at the Maine Mall.
Their goal was to beat Pennsylvania's largest whoopie record of more than 200 pounds. When complete the 'world's largest' tipped the scale at 1,062 pounds.
As a crowed watched the pieces come together Saturday their patience paid off. The giant whoopie pie was cut and sold by the slice. The money raised will be used to send Maine made whoopie pies to our troops serving overseas.
