WOOLWICH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The red, 1740's Colonial house doesn't look like a corporate headquarters, but for New England Medical Transcription, it is just that.
Linda Sullivan started the business in her home office twenty years ago, transcribing reports for her son's doctor. From there, she added a few more transcriptionists. Now, the company employs some 300 people all over the country.
They work from home, like Sullivan did, handlings transcription for doctors and hospitals from many parts of the country. The business has grown dramatically in recent years. "In each of the last four years, it had an annual year after year growth of thirty percent," says Sullivan.
That's why New England Medical Transcription has made Inc. Magazine's 500 | 5000 list of fast growing companies four years in a row.
Wright Pierce of Topsham, a civil and environmental engineering company, is on the list for the first time, as is Isamax Snacks of Gardiner, Maine's largest baker of whoopie pies.
The list is an annual feature of the magazine, and it identifies the companies around the country that are showing significant growth in annual income.
The highest rated Maine business, however, is Listen Up Espanol of Portland. Information on the company's website says Listen Up Espanol is a telemarketing business that focuses on the nation's growing Latino population. The company -which has corporate offices in Portland and a large call center in a city in Mexico - ranked a remarkable 27th on the Inc. list.
The full list of Maine companies is as follows:
