At the New School in Kennebunk students are learning about community service as they participate in a program called "Giving Back Days." The students choose what kind of volunteering they would like to do. Due to last year's cold winter and higher heating bills they decided to help winterize the homes of those in need in their community. This field work serves two purposes; it teaches the students about the science thermal dynamics such as how heat leaves a building and it teaches students how to work together as a team. It also teaches students to engage with and relate to the homeowners. Really the program is a valuable life lesson in civic responsibility and interpersonal skill.
