Oxford, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The Maine Landowner Relations Program is planning a regional Landowner Appreciation Cleanup Day.  The event is designed to keep private land open for recreational purposes.

The program is a joint effort of Maine's Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Department of Conservation.

"It makes me angry,"  said Robert Duplessie Director of the program.  "Trash is one of the biggest reasons people post their land."

Sports groups and clubs are being asked to participate in a day of cleanup on September 25.  Duplessie is planning to make this an annual event. This year's event is focusing on Oxford, Kennebec, York, Penobscot, Somerset and Aroostook counties.  However, all groups are being encouraged to start their own projects statewide.

Anyone who would like to be involved is encouraged to contact Robert Duplessie at (207) 557-9924.  His email address is robert.duplessie@maine.gov.
