ALFRED, Maine (AP) -- A prosecutor says a woman whose marriage was falling apart recruited her lover and her brother to kill her husband two years ago.
Darlene George of Old Orchard Beach and her brother Jeffrey Williams of West Hempstead, N.Y., are on trial for the killing of 45-year-old Winston George. The third suspect, Rennie Cassimy of Brooklyn, N.Y., has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge and is expected to testify.
Darlene George's lawyer acknowledged as the trial got under way Monday that she was unhappy in her marriage but said she didn't plan the June 2008 murder.
Police say the suspects tried to make it look like a home invasion. According to court documents, Darlene George stood to benefit from a $70,000 life insurance policy.
