9-11 Heroes Run coming to Bangor

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The September 11th Anniversary is coming up, and if you'd like to do something special in memory of the heroes who gave their lives since 9-11, there is a 5k road race and fundraiser that is new to Bangor this year.

It's called the 911 Heroes Run. Proceeds will go to the Travis Manion Foundation and the Wounded Heroes Program of Maine which help veterans and families of fallen heroes.

Navy Recruiter Fernando Landeros ran races in other parts of the country. When he found out there was no run in Maine, he decided to organize. the Bangor Run.

"And an important thing i don't want to forget is I served during that time and a lot of people didn't come home as well," he said. "The run is to challenge the fallen by honoring the living so that's the big key. We're there to honor the fallen."

The 911 Heroes Run will take place on Sunday September 7th at 9:00 a.m. on the Bangor Waterfront. You can find more information on the Bangor run on the groups Facebook page.
