SCARBOROUGH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Cal Stinson of Prospect Harbor, Maine has again won the singles title at the Maine State Trap Shooting Championships. The accomplishment is made more remarkable by the ract that Cal Stinson is 82 years old. The veteran broke 197 of 200 targets.
Al Wright of Harrison Maine was the overall winner. In four days of competition, he broke 931 of 1000 targets.
Trap is a shooting sport. Contestants use shotguns to fire at targets. Upon the command of the shooter, a "clay pigeon" is launched. It can leave the "house" in any direction. The margin of victory is often quite small. Success is usually more about concentration and consistency than it is about phyical prowess.
A record 307 competitors took part in the competition at the Scarborough Fish and Game Club. They fired at 141,300 targets over the four days of competition.
