Norway fire Capt. David Millett remembered

NORWAY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A funeral was held in Norway for the fire captain who died shortly after returning from a fire Saturday.

Captain David Millett joined the Norway Fire Department as a volunteer in 1972, eventually serving as captain and safety officer.

Several hundred people including firefighters from more than a dozen departments across the state attended today's funeral.

For those who knew Millett, he was affectionately known as: "Bear."

"What a gentle giant he was," said the Chief. "He was just a peach of man. He was always there when you needed him. I always could depend on David. Just for instance... The very last call that he had on Saturday morning... He probably should have stayed home but he was dedicated that much to the community and to the fire department that he was there on scene."

Millett is survived by his wife, two daughters and a grandson.
