Maine couple celebrates wedding before wife's passing

(NEWS CENTER) -- Despite her illness, Brittney Ross Brewer put on her white dress and cowgirl boots and went to her wedding celebration Friday night.

Brittney Ross and Jared Brewer tied the knot on Valentine's Day. The couple was hoping to make it to their August wedding date, but Brittney's small cervical cancer was aggressive and doctors weren't sure if she'd make it. They were hoping she'd last until Friday, Feb. 27 for the celebration with friends and family, and she did.

At the celebration, her bridesmaids surprised her by learning and performing a line dance. She wanted a good old fashioned hoe down and that's what it was. She and Jared were surround by 200 family and friends from the Corrections and Portland Police departments where they worked.

Completely undeterred by being in a wheelchair, Brittney got out on the dance floor to dance at her wedding celebration. Brittney told Jared that she loved every minute of it.

On Sunday, Brittney and her loved ones gathered to watch their wedding video. Surrounded by her loved ones, Brittney peacefully passed away. She was 28 years old.
