Maine program donates 300 Christmas trees to military families and members

Trees for Troops

NEWBURGH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Trees for Troops is a nationwide program that provides free, farm-grown Christmas trees to United States military members and their families.

Volunteers arrived Monday at Piper Mountain Christmas Trees in Newburgh to load the balsam firs onto a truck. It’s a team effort between the Christmas Spirit Foundation, FedEx and tree farmers across the United States.

Co-owner Jim Corliss said that, with donations from all over the state, they are able to donate 300 trees to military families and members.

“It makes you feel kind of warm, doesn't it?" Corliss said. "We get thank yous from folks scattered around the country. I don't know yet where these trees will go. Last year they went to Fort Ruker in Missouri."
