John Grovo, 6 Who Care Award Winner
John Grovo started volunteering at Hollis Elementary School in 2000, at age 80. Starting with just one morning a week, he soon found delight in being part of this school community.
Today he is at Hollis School... daily... 40 hours each week: making copies, sorting mail, trouble-shooting the office equipment, or at "his desk" in the faculty room, working on tasks that help prepare curriculum for classroom teachers. Or he's in the hallway, where "Uncle Johnny" is well-loved by the young students, greeting them each morning, listening to them read.
Away from school, John performs kindnesses for his neighbors: snowblowing the driveway, mowing the lawn... simply to do something nice for someone else. Sandra Cormier says "John is an exceptional man. I have never met a man that is always thinking of ways to help others."
