At Kennebunk Elementary School students are learning about responsibility and community through a school jobs program called KidShine. Students are hand selected for special school jobs. The students are then interviewed just as they would if they were applying for a real job at the school. After the interview the students receive real ID cards that grant them access to job specific rooms in the school such as the photo copy room where they can carry out their duties. The program is extremely successful. Students enjoy their new found responsibilities. Teachers notice a difference in the student's self confidence, maturity and reliability. Finally the program creates a strong sense of community and "Team Spirit" that has had a profoundly positive affect on the school as a whole.
