All the nitty-gritty about launching your own collection drive!

Coats for Kids gathered more than 38,000 coats last year, helping keep kids all over Maine warm this winter. Toys for Kids goes a long way toward helping The Salvation Army making a happier holiday season for children who might otherwise go without. Your efforts are critical to the success of these campaigns, and we hope we can count on your help.

If your school, business, civic group, or other organization would like to participate, here are some helpful hints:

Send us an email and let us know if you would like to do: 1. Coats for Kids 2. Toys for Kids 3. Both campaigns

If you wish to do a toy collection, contact us right away so that we can connect you with The Salvation Army's collection and distribution team.

We have free color posters that can help you publicize your coat and/or toy drive; just let us know how many you need.

Use large, clean boxes for collection (dress them up with the posters, or your own decoration!). As your collection receptacles fill up, bag the coats and toys separately in clean garbage bags to prepare them for dropoff.

The 11th Annual Coats & Toys for Kids Day is December 5, 8:00am-2:00pm. Our statewide live locations are still to be announced.... we'll post them here as soon as they are finalized. We hope you'll drop off collected coats and toys on Coats & Toys for Kids Day so that you can be part of the fun and festivities. But remember, coats can be dropped off at any Hannaford or Shaw's Supermarkets statewide between November 23 and December 31, 2009. Toys must be dropped off no later than December 15 in order for The Salvation Army to get them to families in time for the holidays.

If you have any other questions about the Coats for Kids campaign or Coats & Toys for Kids Day, please contact us at 1-800-464-1213, or email us. If you or a family or child you know is in need of a coat or coats, contact The Salvation Army.

Several Maine businesses collaborate annually on Coats for Kids, including: Shaw's; Hannaford Supermarkets; Pratt-Abbott Cleaners; Pepsi; WCSH 6 and WLBZ 2; and The Salvation Army. Maine Energy Marketers Association sponsors Coats & Toys for Kids Day.

Thank you for keeping children in your heart this winter.
