Bath woman has reached the tender age of 106

Mainer celebrates her 106th birthday.

BATH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Amanda King had 106 reasons to celebrate the holiday season. She has come a long way since being raised in a Bath home with no electricity and no indoor plumbing.

Ms. King is the oldest living graduate of Morse High School and the last remaining member of the class of 1927.

She has 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren.

Ms. King moved into the Winship Green nursing center in September due to a fall, but before that, she was living on her own, cooking and doing her own laundry everyday.

Even though she has seen a lot of changes over the years, she said her favorite invention is the microwave oven.

"There's been an awful lot of them. We went from wooden sidewalks and gravel roads to pavement and all those things. There's been an awful lot of changes." she said.

King celebrated her birthday with her family this weekend.
