1,500 walk to end breast cancer in Cape Elizabeth

Hundreds make strides against breast cancer

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Around 1,500 people took part in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk Sunday at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth.

The American Cancer Society said last year, the event raised over $154,000 to support cancer research and people with breast cancer.

For many people walking the course Sunday, there was a personal reason why they came out.

“We just lost our sister about a month ago and she lost her mom and we're just here to be together as a family,” said Karen Hopkins, who participated in the walk with half a dozen other family members.

After the event's conclusion, walk organizers were still counting fundraising totals for the American Cancer Society, but expected it to be close to 2015 totals.
