Car-Moose accident is a harrowing tale

SKOWHEGAN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Dr. David Richards is best known as the Executive Director of the Margaret Chase Smith Library in Skowhegan. On July 3, 2014 he was involved in a collision with a moose. The moose nearly filled his car. David was badly injured. He broke his right arm, a hand, his neck and had a fracture of his skull.

David told NEWS CENTER that he doesn't like to drive in the Moosehead area at night. However, he had enjoyed a fireworks display that night and was going to Greenville to see the fireworks on the Fourth of July.

David is recovering nicely and enjoying activities at the library. Fifty years ago, Smith became the first woman to seek the Presidential nomination of a major political party.
