ROCKLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A prominent Maine magazine and a big midcoast festival are both the product of one man's love for boats and they're both hitting a milestone.
25 years ago, John Hanson started Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors Magazine. It was an outlet for his love of boats and coastal life.
He quickly found he wasn't the only one who shared that love, so ten years ago he started the Rockland Boat Show, which gives builders, vendors and visitors the chance to see boats and boat products in the water.
Ultimately, Hanson says he is trying to share a passion for Maine boats and Maine craftspeople.
"You can experience all these things from the deck of a canoe," he explains, "It's still life on the coast. And it doesn't require a huge yacht - that would be nice - but it is just being actively involved in life on the coast."
