WASHINGTON (NEWS CENTER) -- Earlier this month, NEWS CENTER's Pat Callaghan sat down with President Barack Obama at the White House for a one-on-one interview.
The interview took place in the diplomatic reception room -- which is right off of the South Lawn where we have seen presidents welcome foreign heads of state so many times.
Pat was invited by the White House to talk about Richard Cordray, President Obama's nominee for the Consumer Protection Bureau, a new watchdog agency. Senate Republicans blocked Cordray's nomination right after our interview. Obama may be able to get the nomination through soon -- while Congress is in recess.
The two also spoke about LIHEAP -- and the struggle many Mainers have with heating their homes. The president would not be specific on LIHEAP, but he did say there could be more money forthcoming.
