BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Each year thousands of people begin treatment for breast cancer hoping time, medical science and a little luck will be on their side.
Gini Hodsdon is a breast cancer survivor who now works as a laundry attendant at Hollywood Slots in Bangor. Each day she helps wash sheets and towels for about 152 rooms in the hotel.
She says her biggest challenge came back in 1996 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Gini was lucky because she caught the disease early. She underwent months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment before her doctors said she was through the worst.
Years later, Gini says that she owes her survival in part to her careful eye.
"Early detection, early detection...just be aware of your own body," she said, "because you are your best resource."
